Well, that's good birthday gift. Whether they're on again or off again, Nina and Ian have always been the best of friends. So it wasn't that shocking that he took to Twitter to send her some seriously sweet birthday love:

While the whole year was incredible for The Vampire Diaries star, we've got to point out that just a day before her birthday, she and Ian took home the People's Choice Award for Best On-Screen Chemistry. Nina & Ian's Chemistry
For anyone who has seen five seconds of TVD, they know it's true - I mean, she plays three different characters and they all cling to Damon at one point or another.
They had an adorable banter when winning the award!
"And then we started dating on the show," Nina started. "Then we started dating in real life" Ian followed. "Then we broke up in real life," she said. "And yet our characters are still dating on the show," he added.
With that, Nina said, "It's a good thing it's not awkward" followed by that awkward-adorable silence. "Well, it's a good thing we have chemistry," she added laughing, holding up her award. Then Ian made us all swoon and kissed her on the cheek.
At the end of the day, we're just so happy these two can stay close, whether it's romantically or friendly, because we can't lie - that Damon-Elena chemistry is too sexy to deny!
