"12 Years a Slave" won big awards at the 2014 Academy Awards, but are director Steve McQueen and Oscar-winning screenwriter John Ridley in a feud of some sort? Rumors say they are.
Questions about this relationship began to arise when Ridley was announced as the winner of the Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar for the film. McQueen appeared less-than-enthusiastic during the applause, and then Ridley failed to name his director among the many "thank you" mentions in the speech.
Sure, this could have been the result of a poorly timed camera shot and of nerves dropping an important name in the speech -- both have happened many times before. But rumors began anyway and have now been fueled by a tweet from reporter Nikki Finke:
My sources attributing John Ridley-Steve McQueen cold shoulder at Oscars tonight to dispute over screenplay credit.-- Nikki Finke (@NikkiFinke) March 3, 2014
Does this mean that McQueen had wanted credit on the script as well? Is there something else wrong between the men? Unfortunately, only rumors exist in the public sphere for now.
Did you notice something off about the two men's interactions during the Oscars?
