KRASNAYA POLYANA, Russia -- American Kaitlyn Farrington knocked off the favorites Wednesday to win gold in women's halfpipe.
Her second run score of 91.75 gave her the victory in her first Winter Games. Teammate Kelly Clark won bronze and Torah Bright of Australia took silver. Hannah Teter finished fourth.
Clark, 30, entered as the heavy favorite to win gold here as she became the most dominant rider after Vancouver.
Clark easily was the first to qualify for the U.S. team, and she has landed on the podium in 28 of the past 34 contests since Dec. 2010.
After the first run of the halfpipe final, two Americans were in position to medal.
Teter led all riders with a first run score of 90.5 while Farrington had second with 85.75.
Clark had an uncharacteristic fall on her first run, hitting the lip of the pipe with her board and falling to the flat bottom. She scored a 38.25 and was in 10
