Kate Middleton, how adorable and natural are you, Prince George and Prince William on your family's first official royal tour together in New Zealand?
Kate Middleton - it was so refreshing to see you actually get right down on the floor to play with
Prince George at the little heir's first official engagement, attending a play group with other babies. Kate Middleton As Mom To Prince George: It's Fantastic That You're So Hands-On
Kate Middleton, you are totally following in the footsteps of
Prince William's beloved mother,
Princess Diana, who was the very first royal mom to actually have a hands-on relationship with her children.
She was married to William's dad,
Prince Charles, whose own mother,
Queen Elizabeth, was strictly hands-off - she was more queen than actual loving mum.
Now, Princess Diana must be smiling in heaven to see how her son's choice of wife reflects her own philosophy of child-rearing - to be as affectionate and loving as possible.
Take Our Poll
Both you and William looked like everyday parents as you held, cuddled, and played with little George and chatted with other parents at the New Zealand play date. You could barely keep your eyes off Prince George, and it's clear that you are as loving with your little son as any mother - royal or not - could be. Kate Middleton - It's Wonderful That You Take After Princess Diana
You looked completely natural holding George and shifting him from hip to hip as he grew heavy - he certainly is a robustly healthy little guy!
And little baby George is obviously used to being in his mother's arms. Not only did he gaze up at you happily, but he also good-naturedly touched your face, played with your hair, and then grabbed a strand and put it in his mouth and started to chew.
Hey, that's what babies do! And despite George's blue-blood background, he is, after all, just a baby.
You and Prince William seemed completely comfortable meeting with the 10 other sets of parents for the play date organized by the New Zealand government.
You all swapped tales of sleepless nights, changing diapers, being on bottle duty, and coping with all of the various surprises of new parenthood.
George enjoyed himself, shaking toys, putting them in his mouth, grabbing for toys from other babies, and then dropping everything on the floor. In other words, George did what came naturally, and so did his parents.
Both you and Prince William have made it clear that you will be raising your children as primary caregivers, and while your nanny,
Maria Borrallo, has come along for the New Zealand trip, she's certainly in the background.
When Prince William learned how to put George's car seat in his own car and drove the family home from the hospital, he was making an important statement about wanting to be an involved dad. And now it's clear at the play date that that's exactly what is happening. You and William are equal partners in raising Prince George, and it is so refreshing to see the future king and queen make their son's everyday well-being a top priority.
